It has been a bit of a strange year for TV. Firstly the apprentice got moved til later in the year due to the Election. Top Gear was put back after the Stig was outed as being Ben collins. Incidentilly Top gear returns tonight, with new Stig
The aprentice was won by Stella who seemed to be the best candidate through the whole process. The Apprentice 2010 seemed to be weaker than in previous years in my opinion and the series was sved by the Insanity of Stuart Baggs (the Brand). Survivors continued the post viralk apocalypic story from the excellent first series. Although series 2 was weaker than the first it was a shame this was pulled and not renewed for series three. Matt Smith began his run as the eleventh Doctor along side Karen Gillen. I really like Matt smith as the doctor and think he fits the role really well. Smith adds a bit more of the quirkiness lacking from Tennats doctor. He grew into the role as the series ran and i think he will be a very popular doctor when history looks back although maybe not so much from the female viewers. Ashes to Ashes concluded this year as did Lost and 24. We found out that the Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes world was effectively purgatory for Police officers to go between life and death to some to terms with their life before moving onto…we …i guess heaven in a pub. 24's series 8 finished and an announcment that no more series would be made brings to aclose the long running Jack bauer saga on TV at least. There is expected to be at least 1 film maybe more depending on how well it goes over. Lost finished after 6 yearswith a very similar revelation to Ashes to Ashes it's all about the time between death and the after life although the final series answered many questions with a lot of nice ouches they still left something unanswered. I think that is ok though as it will give fans of the show something to discuss. Merlin had its third run and had some good points and some poor ones. I realise they have to entertain everyone but resorting to Fart jokes one week was poor. Also why has no-one realsied that anyone who visits and is an old/long lost friend is not what they seem. Every other episode seemed to follow this format. Anyway onto the awards TV Disapointment of 2010 Sky's interpritation of Terry Prachett's Going Postal. I loved reading this book and had finished it only a week or two before it aired and was surprised Terry Prachett put his name to it as its a complete and utter butchering. Mopist von Lipwig's character is completely changed and some of the actions they have kept in make no sense because of it.Charles Dance's interpritation of Vetinari was poor when you compare it to Jeremy Irons version. How can you get a charcter wrong when he was done right in the previous adaptation, it's beyond me. If you haven't read the book its decently entertaining but a good adaptation of the book it is not. TV Show of the Year Award 2010 And the Winner is…………. The Pacific (HBO & Sky) A Big budget 10 part mini series focussing on the in the Pacific theatre of the second world war. The Executive Producers Steven Sielberg and Tom Hanks (also narrator) created a masterpiece. I personally don't rate this as high as Band of brothers which was truly fantastic. Interviews with the real people behind the characters, excellent script writing and scene setting bring the reality of the Pacific war to life. If you havn't watched this or Band of Brothers i would definitely suggest you do.
