A look back on 2011 part 6 - Gaming

Now before anyone complains this is my look at Gaming through 2011. I am all for opinions but to be honest I don’t care what was good on the Xbox 360 or PS3 as I don’t own one.
This year can be summed up in a fairly small number of games I have been playing.

Despite  being largely an update or map pack of the last game Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 becomes the fastest selling product of all time. Bringing in $1 billion in revenue for Activision. Still if it means they can afford to give money to Blizzard to make quality games such as the Star craft franchise and Diablo 3 then keep churning out dross for the sheep to buy.

Much of my game playing time this year has been taken up by a fairly small number of games. The beginning of the year I was still mostly playing Star craft 2. I still firmly believe this is the best RTS game that has been made and the expansion due out next year will be firmly on my must have list.

I gave Lord of the Rings Online a go this year but as the game had been going for years it's not easy to get in to and a lot of the established players don't seem to be conducive to new players who don't know their way around.

Despite not planning to I did finally buy Football Manager 2012 as it was on sale on Game. I have to say I have enjoyed playing it as much I as I ever did but I stand by my opinion it's not worth the £30 price tag it has as a new game as it mostly is incremental updates and little that is ground breaking in terms of changes.

Game of the Year
I have three contenders for my game of the year  and I'll mention the 2 that don't win first. The First contender was Deus Ex Human Revolution. I loved this game and nothing else got a look in pretty much once I bought it until it was completed. I don't own the Downloadable content yet but I am sure I will buy it and I am hoping that there are more games in the series. I would love to see an updated take follow-up to the original games where as Human Revolution is a prequel.

The Second contender is Battlefield 3, For those of you that know me will understand this is a big accolade from me as I really am not a big  fan of "Modern Combat" type shooters. Had it not been for pretty much all my friends buying it I would likely have left it on the shelf as Bad Company 2 was very unfriendly to not very good players like me. Battlefield 3 has made a lot of improvements in what you can achieve as a poorer player and while I never top the score charts I at least am useful to the team.

My Game of the year is Skyrim, quite frankly its phenomenal and has raised the bar as far as RPG's go. The game excels in the amount of content, the open world feel and the scenery is great too. It's the kind of game I could just wander around the country side to see what is there. You can fast travel but it's not worth it half the time as you miss things.
