First off Leeds O2 is not a venue for you if you are under 6 feet tall and are standing, the complete lack of sloped flooring means unless you are right at the front or are very luck you will spend the length of the Gig trying to move to see bits of the stage.
We had aftershow passes to collect from the box office so entered the venue at the front left bit of the stage and managed to get a great view of Frost* (incidentally the star is part of the name and doesn't mean there is a comment at the bottom, like i first though) from there. I won't go too much into the details of each gig as Others put it more eloquently than i can, One such review is here, at
Paul "Funky" Gibbons Blog/Website.
I enjoyed Frost* once their sound had been sorted out and will definately be listening to more of their stuff, i had meant to before hand but had not gotten around to it, Their set list was:
Hyperventilate
Welcome to Nowhere
Pocket Sun
Dear Dead Days
Black Light Macine
The Other Me
I wont go into it too much more as i'm not familier enough with these tracks to know how well they were performed, other than to say again i enjoyed them.
As soon as Frost* finished some tall bloke pushed his way through to stand next to his mate and completely blocked our view, I hate this, it might sounds strange given its pretty normal at a standing gig for people to push through but if he couldn't get there early enough he shouldn't ruin somone elses experience.
We decided to see if we could find somewhere better to see from after trying a few places i decided to stay near the back on the right and jen went to have a look elsewhere, I noticed that there was a bit of space near the mixing desk and as i couldn't see still from where i was gave that a try.
After a few minutes i became aware of Moliver (Very drunk by this point) shouting there's Jarv as Jen was trying to find me, Moliver then instsed in giving me a hug and then telling me off for "not doing it properly and to stop being so blokey about it"..
The Sound again was a bit off for the beginning of Dream Theater but after that stood by the mixing desk i thought was good. The Set list was
1. In The Presence Of Enemies, Pt. 1
2. Beyond This Life
3. Misunderstood
4. A Rite of Passage
5. Hollow Years (extended)
6. Caught in a Web
7. Forsaken
8. Erotomania
9. Voices
10. Solitary Shell (extended)
11. Constant Motion
12. As I Am
13. Medley:
I. Metropolis, Pt. 1: The Miracle and the Sleeper
II. Learning To Live
III. A Change of Seasons: VII. The Crimson Sunset
The Highlights for me was Misunderstood as i completley wasn't expecting it and its one of my favourites off of "Six Degrees" and Caught in a Web as this was another one that i didn't expect. I was thrown with Hollow Years as it was the Demo version and i have to admit i wasn't too familier with it.
After the gig we met Jordan and asked him if it was indeed an I-phone he was playing at a couple of points, turns out its an ipod touch not an iphone, probrably a good thing in case he accidentally called someone half way through the gig" er… sorry i can't talk right now i've got to do a solo".
Apart from not being able to see all that well i really enjoyed the gig and especially meeting with all the nice firendly people from
Voices UK
