The UK Does like Hockey - Take note BBC

I Watched the Olympic Ice Hockey final on Sunday night, it was an entertaining game where Canada led 2-0, USA pulled it back to 2-2 and Canada trough Sid "the Kid" Crosby got the winner in sudden death over time.

The result wasn't surprising but 2 things were.

I followed the game from my desk and had twitter open as well and was amazed the amount of messages about the hockey. A Number of these were from people who said they hadn't watched Hockey before. Something i never thought would happen over here, Match of the Day was delayed for Ice Hockey. I hope the BBC have taken note that there are people in this country who like Hockey, they would likely get coverage of it for a cheap price once the current Sky deal runs out. It won't ever happen the BBC doesn't listen to the British public, just see the debacle over iPlayer no longer supporting open source codecs.

Secondly the game was fairly short even with over time. This was because the game wasn't being stopped every 2 minutes for a penalty. I'm not sure if this was just because the players are a lot better, which they are or whether the refs allowed the game to flow. The only thing I saw that I disagreed with i thought Malone should have gone for cross-checking to the head instead of 2 minutes for high sticks.
Sadly I don't think we will see Ice Hockey on the Beeb for another four years, let's hope that Team GB scrape through somehow and are involved in Sochi 2014…….oh look a flying pig.
