You heard me, when I was a lad a trip o the arcade at the seaside was a fantastic experience. There was always a load of games of different styles and types. These days its all just 2p machines, the odd shooter and a racing game or 2. Everything else is there for gambling.
It's a shame these days as kids are being denied a great experience because all of the games that used to be made for arcades are now made for consoles and the graphics can easily be reproduced at home.I did find a machine today which had a load of arcade classics and had an enjoyable 10 minutes playing Super Sprint.
I'm not sure exactly when the change occurred I seem to remember visiting Skeggy (Skegness to those un-initiated) five or six years ago and the arcades still had a good selection, but alas no longer. Even more so there will be less now with the Wii and other motion controllers on the market even the gimmick type games will eventually disappear and how long before many of the arcades follow them to be replaced with more seaside tat shops, each identical to the last. This makes me sad to think a part of my growing up seaside experience will be lost to future generations and even more sad that it will be lost to me. An opportunity to re-live some of my growing up gone into the mists of time.
I'd love to be able to find an old arcade game or world cup Italia 90. I guess i will have to console myself with Starcraft 2 when we go home at the end of the week. By
