It has been an interesting 2 weeks since the Monaco Grand Prix but I don't want to go into a lot of detail in regard to the Bahrain Grand Prix. Sufficed to say I am completely against going to Bahrain and I am of the opinion we should Boycott the Bahrain Grand Prix, should it go ahead. It is now looking like the teams are against it and pressure is mounting to cancel it again and indeed it seems it isn't going ahead. Bernie seems to have realise his Wallet might take a beating if they go so has said it wont happen.
Anyway Monaco was a thrilling race which had far more overtaking than previously at that circuit. Sadly the climax of the race was completely destroyed by the two safety cars and Vettel got a massive slice of luck by his team putting on the wrong tyres and then as they were allegedly about to completely lose any remaining performance the second safety car happens and they are all allowed to change tyres.
Its rather baffling that the cars were allowed to make changes in this way in the same way it was strange that Hamilton was allowed to change his rear wing. They should have told all the cars any changes needed to be done in the pits. There are 2 ways of doing this, allow the cars to restart from the pitlane when other cars had already set off behind the safety car or make them start behind the safety car and then pit. Giving teams essentially a free pitstop spoiled the spectacle.
Anyway on to Canada which sees for the first time 2 DRS zones. It's not totally clear whether there will be 2 activation points to allow for a potential re-pass or whether there will be just 1 and the second zone, on the start-finish straight, will be used to help cars consolidate their lead. I believe it will be the latter option but either way it will be interesting to see how it works out. What ever happens in Montreal this weekend someone has to beat Vettel, preferably by a number of places in the race or the title may as well be handed to him now. That said in the last 2 races other cars have looked very close if not slightly faster than the Red Bull under race conditions. Hopefully this means we may see a few new differnet winners over the next several races and a thrilling climax to the 2011 season, rather than one driver dominating and having the title effectively won by the summer break.
Good news is Sergio Perez has been passed fit to race in Canada after his nasty smash in Monaco exiting the tunnel. And he is quoted as saying he is looking forward to his first visit here. Lewis Hamilton is a driver with much to prove. Firstly that he is still a contender for the title and this is a race he normally excels at. Secondly that he isn't a spoilt brat which he appeared to be post race in Monaco.
Anyway here is Lewis Hamiltons Pole lap from 2010
