Premier League Preview 2011-2012 - MANCHESTER UNITED

2010/2011 was a successful season for Manchester United but ended on a down note with the Champions League final and being outclassed again by Barcelona. There has been changes too David De Gea replaces the retiring Edwin van der Sar. Paul Scholes and Gary Neville have both retired. Ashley Young and Phil Jones have also been brought in to add to the squad.

United have gone unbeaten in the pre-season culminating in completely outclassing the City rivals in the last friendly, the Community Shield. Its a well stated fact but the average age of the United team in the second half was just 22 and this surely bodes well for the future.

There have been lots of rumours of United signing a central midfield play maker however i'm not so sure they will. Both Anderson and Tom Cleverley have shown throughout pre-season they have something to offer and I personally think they would be enough. Sir Alex Ferguson has a history of giving kids a chance in the first team and I don't think Anderson or Cleverley would let him down.

David De Gea is a key player for United this season as a new keeper and only 20 years old he will need to find his form quickly. An Error on the Dzeko shot in the Community shield had the United haters rubbing their hands with glee calling him the next Taibi and such like. He made up for his error with 2 decent saves in the second half. I personally don't have any worries about him at all.

United fans will be hoping Valencia stays fit and they have Young, Valencia and Nani fighting for 2 wing places. Nani will benefit from a few more games off as he looked jaded by the end of last season having to play nearly every week through Valencia's injury.

Betting

Manchester United are favourites to lift the title at between 13/8 and 7/4 and also have the 2 top favourites for being the top scorer, both in the region of 8/1. The surprise for me is one is Hernandez. I know he had a good first season but I would have expected him to be slightly longer odds as some games United will only play 1 up top and that's going to be Rooney 9 times out of 10

Last Seasons final Position - 1st

Mystic Jarv's prediction for Manchester United in the 2011-2012 football season – Champions – Did you really expect me to predict anyone else as champions? Here's another one for you. United will clinch the title at the game away at Man City towards the end of the season.
