Today is a Sad day for the world of Football. Sepp Blatter is about to be re-elected as FIFA president in a farce of an election where his one opponent was accused and suspended for corruption and then pulled out of the race. Blatter was accused but quickly cleared rather than be properly investigated so Blatter stand unopposed for a fourth term in office.

One thing Chuck Blazer said is the FA left it too late to ask for a vote delay and left it too late to reveal any corruption evidence. This I fully agree with, Everyone in the world can see something just didn't sit right about either the 2018 or 2022 bids. England clearly had the best bid by a mile yet lost due to internal politics and Qatar won 2022 despite their being numerous problems with their bid, the weather being one.

The FA and SFA who were even later should have called for a formal investigation long ago and until an independent body is given access to every FIFA members bank accounts and full access to the FIFA computers to conduct a very detailed investigation of every member then FIFA will never be truly clean. No-one should be allowed to be a representative at FIFA unless they are proven to be clean. Even if they don't go that far it should be a condition of being an executive committee member.

Here is what I would do. Conduct a detailed forensic investigation of the current executive committee members financial dealings. Anyone who is even slightly dodgy would be booted out, I include the current president in this and any other senior staff members. Once this is done the remaining executive committee members nominate a new interim president and organise new Presidential elections between anyone who wants to stand. All those wishing to stand for president and any being raised to the new executive committee of 25% of the total membership (currently this would be 52) would have to submit to the same investigation. More executive committee members also reduces the chance of them being bribed as there are more of them and one vote would not make as much difference.

Once this process is complete every other representative in FIFA would have to go through the investigative process, then and only then, can FIFA be sure it is clean. All new representatives at fifa would also be investigated as a matter of course. Anyone found guilty of being dodgy would be banned from any football activity for life.

I'm not sure who would conduct the investigations but as long as they were seen as truly impartial and from outside the game then it doesn't really matter.

World cup bidding would also have a new process. The first round would be a vote from the whole congress, all 208 nations and would be completely open, no more secret ballots. If one nation gets 75% then they win the world cup. If not the least popular is removed. Round 2 is the same and so on until there are only 2 left. And then only one, the winner.

The problem for this to happen is the people who have a vested interest in the status quo are the ones with power to change things and the man at the top definitely has a vested interest in staying there and sadly he is being re-elected unopposed.
